In part, by studying great “discovered” investors, like David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital. A November 2010 interview with the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission reveals just how, in a period of great chaos and uncertainty, Einhorn synthesized information and pieced together various puzzles. In the interview, Einhorn details his thinking in the fall of 2008 step by step and stock by stock; he saw what was coming and acted to short several major financial institutions.
